竹子竹子是森林资源之一。全世界竹类植物约有70多属1,200多种，主要分布在热带及亚热带地区，少数竹类分布在温带和寒带。竹子是常绿（少数竹种在旱季落叶）浅根性植物，对水热条件要求高，而且非常敏感，地球表面的水热分布支配着竹于的地理分布。东南亚位于热带和南亚热带，又受大平洋和印度洋季风汇集的影响，雨量充沛，热量稳定，是竹子生长理想的生态环境，也是世界竹子分布的中心。竹子常和其他树种一起组成混交林，而且处于主林层之下，过去很少受人重视。当上层林木砍伐后，竹子以生长快、繁殖力强的特点很快恢复成次生竹林。竹子用途不断扩大，经济价值高，人们植竹造林，形成人工林。次生竹林和人工竹林，又以它强大的地下茎向四周蔓延扩大。因此，近几十年来，地球表面森林面积逐年减少（据统计，1988年以来，热带森林平均每年消失2,425万hm2，每分钟消失46.14hm2），而竹林面积却日益扩大。目前全世界竹林面积约2,200万hm2。世界的竹子地理分布可分为3大竹区，即亚太竹区、美洲竹区和非洲竹区，有些学者单列“欧洲、北美引种区”。中国竹类资源十分丰富，有适于热带生长的合轴型丛生竹种、亚热带生长的单轴型散生竹种和高海拔高纬度地区生长的耐寒性强的复轴型混生竹种。据统计，全国竹类植物共有48个属，500多种。这些竹种分布在北纬40о以南的广大国士上。由于各地气候、土壤、地形的变化和竹种本身种属特性的差异，中国竹子分布具有明显的地带性和区域性。
