次有蹄类次有蹄类Subungulata哺乳动物的一个类别。又称非洲有蹄类。包括长鼻目、蹄兔目、索齿兽目、海牛目和重脚目。其中除索齿兽目迄今只发现于北太平洋沿岸的几个地区（萨哈林岛、北海道、加利福尼亚）外，其余4个目都可能起源于早第三纪初期生活于北非的某一祖先类群。长鼻目的象类是人们所熟悉的，其化石类型极为多样。重脚类只有一个绝灭属为代表，发现于埃及，其体型似犀，但头部有并列的一对大角，而且在大角后面的基部又各生出一支很小的角。现代蹄兔类的生活习性和体型均似兔，其四肢的前端具小的蹄状甲。在地史时期分布可能较广泛，其体型也有较大的，如在中国上新世及更新世地层中发现的一些种类的大小可接近于犀。海牛类自始新世起已完全适应于海生生活，而在体型上有很大改变。索齿兽类化石以在日本发现的较多。最先找到其牙齿时，古生物学家均无法最终确定其分类。直到找到完整骨架后，才稍弄清这类动物的情况。索齿兽类个体较大，四肢粗壮，脚很宽大，牙齿由成对排列的垂直小柱构成。对于它的生活习性和生活状态有较多推测，但尚未取得一致公认。一般认为它适应于在水中或水边生活。直到更新世末期才绝灭。至于次有蹄类各目之间及与其他哺乳动物目如踝节目、奇蹄目等的关系尚不很清楚，有待于深入研究。
