桑(mulberry)
桑(mulberry)一种以其叶为桑蚕饲料的经济作物，属桑科(Moraceae)桑属(Morus)，落叶乔木或灌木，树皮呈波状或网状裂纹，具乳汁。叶互生，叶身分裂或不分裂，叶缘有锯齿。托叶披针形，早落。花为单性花，偶有两性花，葇荑花序，雌雄同株或异株。花柱明显或不明显；柱头2裂，有毛或突起。果实肥厚多肉，集附于花轴周围，称桑椹或桑果，成熟时紫黑色，或白色。除去果肉即种子，称桑籽。桑树是亚热带及温带植物，分布范围很广。全世界有30多个国家栽桑养蚕，蚕茧产量以中国为最多，日本次之，再次为印度、前苏联等国。中国是栽桑养蚕生产丝绸最早的国家。20世纪初期，蚕丝出口激增，促进了养蚕业的发展。中国各省区，除严寒地区外都有桑树生长。珠江流域的广东，长江流域的浙江、江苏和四川等省栽桑面积较大，被称为中国4大蚕区。中国桑属植物有15个种和一个变种，分类如下：1.雌花花柱明显：柱头有突起：蒙桑、鬼桑、川桑、山桑、唐鬼桑、瑞穗桑；柱头有毛：鸡桑2.雌花花柱不明显:柱头有突起：长果桑、鲁桑、白桑、黔鄂桑(长穗桑)、天竺桑；柱头有毛：黑桑、华桑、广东桑、滇桑。桑树除桑叶用作蚕的饲料外，桑椹俗称桑果，味甘可食，可酿酒或入药。桑树材质坚韧，宜制器具。枝条可编筐，还可培养成农用桑叉。桑皮可作造纸原料，桑的根、皮和叶均可入药。
